How to choose access points

Choose an access point by Wi-Fi generation, how many clients each one serves, and the PoE your switch can deliver. Wi-Fi 6 is the sensible minimum for new installs; Wi-Fi 6E adds the 6 GHz band for dense spaces like classrooms and conference rooms.

Common questions

What PoE does a Wi-Fi 6 access point need?

Most Wi-Fi 6 access points need 802.3at (PoE+, up to 30 W) to run every radio at full power. Some Wi-Fi 6E and Wi-Fi 7 models need 802.3bt. Check the datasheet and our PoE budget calculator before choosing a switch.

Are used access points worth it?

Often, if the model is still supported. Avoid models past end of support for long-term installs, and for Meraki, make sure each unit is unclaimed and budget for a license.

Do access points come with a mounting bracket?

New units do. Used units sometimes don't, so ask and we'll confirm on the quote.
